A famous name can get your attention.
A clear formula should earn your consideration.

When you’re comparing hair supplements, it’s easy to focus on the biggest biotin number or the most familiar brand. But neither tells you the whole story.

Start with three better questions: What’s in it? How much of each ingredient do I get? And what will this routine keep costing me?

Those are the questions that make American BioLabs worth a closer look.

01INGREDIENTS, WITH THE NUMBERS ATTACHED

A familiar ingredient name isn’t enough.
The amount matters.

“Contains saw palmetto” tells you one thing. “320 mg of saw palmetto extract” tells you more. ABL puts the quantities on the label, so you can look past the marketing and inspect the formula.

400 mg

Pumpkin seed oil

A 24-week randomized study in men tested a preparation supplying this daily oil quantity.5

100 mg

Mixed tocotrienols

An eight-month randomized study evaluated this daily tocotrienol quantity in a specific supplement.6

320 mg

Saw palmetto extract

This extract amount has been studied in men with hair loss, including an open-label comparative study.7

The practical advantage: you can compare ABL’s listed amounts with quantities reported in human research. That’s more useful than a botanical name with no individual dose.

These studies tested other preparations, not ABL. Extract composition, additional ingredients and delivery can differ; matching milligrams does not establish equivalent results. The saw palmetto study was not placebo-controlled and favored finasteride. An ABL finished-product trial was not provided.

02A MORE INFORMATIVE LABEL

Don’t stop at “premium.”
Look for specifics.

What does “high quality” actually mean on a supplement page? Start with information you can evaluate: the ingredient, its amount, its plant part and its stated standardization.

ABL’s supplied formula specifies all three of these botanical extracts:1

Saw palmetto fruit extract320 mg · 85% fatty acids
Turmeric rhizome extract250 mg · 95% curcuminoids
Ashwagandha root extract125 mg · 5% withanolides

The complete active lineup also includes vitamin D3, biotin, zinc and copper, alongside pumpkin seed oil and mixed tocotrienols. Nine active ingredients. Nine individually listed amounts.

Nutrafol lists vitamin and mineral amounts individually, but several key botanical ingredients sit inside proprietary blends. With ABL, you don’t have to guess their individual quantities.2

Standardization describes a formulation specification, not proof of superior absorption, hair growth or independently verified purity. Batch testing is a separate quality question.9

03THE BIG-BIOTIN QUESTION

3,000 mcg of biotin.
Is more really the point?

Nutrafol Men supplies 3,000 mcg per daily serving. ABL supplies 300 mcg—90% less biotin, alongside the rest of its formula.12

American BioLabs300 mcg
Nutrafol Men3,000 mcg

For context: the U.S. Daily Value is 30 mcg. ABL provides 10× that amount; Nutrafol provides 100×. The Daily Value is not a safety limit.

Biotin is essential. But evidence that extra biotin improves hair growth in people without a deficiency is limited. A larger number is not proof of a better hair result.3

More isn’t automatically harmless, either.

Biotin can distort certain laboratory results, including some thyroid and cardiac tests. Tell your healthcare provider about biotin-containing supplements before testing—including ABL.34

Our preference is to judge the whole formula, not reward the biggest biotin dose. ABL offers the lower-biotin option without making biotin its entire story.

A lower dose is not proof of better results or freedom from test interference. These findings do not establish that Nutrafol’s dose is toxic or causes hair loss.

04READ THE STUDY, NOT JUST THE HEADLINE

“Clinically studied” deserves
a closer look.

Nutrafol does have published research on its finished supplement. But its 2025 men’s trial was funded by its manufacturer, and authors disclosed company relationships. It was not independently funded research.8

The study reported improvements on photographic assessments and questionnaires. Its original primary hair-count endpoint could not be analyzed as planned. That limitation matters when interpreting the results—not just the headline.

Company funding doesn’t erase a study. And ingredient studies don’t make ABL a clinically proven finished product. Our case for ABL is the combination you can verify here: disclosed doses and a lower price.

You don’t need to ignore the science.
You need to know what it actually tested.
